Canadians know that charities play an invaluable role in the fabric of Canadian society. Thats why recent statistics have shown that more than 5.7 million Canadians donated almost 8.5 billion to registered charities in 2011. Its no wonder that Canadians have been described as one of the most generous populations in the entire world. However, there is always more that can be done to nurture the already vibrant culture of giving that Canada radiates. Thats why we unveiled the First-Time Donors Super Credit as part of our Economic Action Plan 2013. It will provide valuable tax incentives which will help encourage new donors to give. This measure is just one of the many ways our Government has supported Canadian charities. In previous years we have helped charities focus more of their time and resources on activities and less on administrative burden by eliminating many of the disbursement quotas. Our Government hopes that many young Canadians will take advantage of this offer and donate to charity.

Our Government wants to encourage more giving by offering first-time charity donors a one-time, temporary super credit of an additional 25% over and above the normal credit. Donations of $200 and under earn a 40% tax credit! Donations over $200 but not exceeding $1000, earn a 54% tax credit!
